Summary:
Oversees and monitors all phases of the plant quality performance including all laboratory operations, process quality performance, packaging quality performance, inbound raw materials, active ingredients, and packaging materials.
Ensures that all intermediates, finished products, and packaging meets the specifications and standards set forth by Helena and its contract customers.
Responsible for establishing a plant wide quality culture with all HII and contracted employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include some or all of the following:
Develops, implements, and maintains an overall quality program for the plant to ensure that all products and services meet or exceed the quality expectations for the company and the company's customers.
Develops and implements the policies and procedures for the quality assurance program of the plant ensuring that all required information is set up in our Operating System, testing is performed as required, and results are recorded accurately and timely in our Operating System.
Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories.
Manages the lab personnel to meet customer requirements, meet all Helena quality initiatives, and reviews product complaints to make improvements in the QA process / procedures.
Responsible for developing the training plan for QA lab personnel:
Operating System entries / maintenance and all QA programs / procedures.
Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
Works with plant personnel and customers in all formulation processes, problems, analysis, and audits.
Ensures development and modification of analytical and product testing methods as requested or needed.
Ensures Customer manuals and product information are current and available for all products.
Reviews new business opportunities to provide anticipated quality cost associated and to address any analytical or compatibility concerns or issues.
Contributes to the overall process of reviewing and on boarding new business.
Prepares, and/or reviews, analytical reports on product results and maintains all testing data in the Operating System.
Coordinates and corresponds to customer inquiries involving quality assurance matters.
Ensures confidentiality of records and proprietary information.
Oversees the purchase of lab supplies for cost effective purchasing.
Monitors and ensures all laboratory equipment is maintained including routine maintenance and repairs.
Meets quality assurance financial objectives by estimating requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
Oversee the ISO programs to ensure that the documentation and business processes defined meet the necessary requirements for ISO certification for the plant.
Maintains a clean work environment both inside and outside the facility by using good housekeeping habits.
Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Reliable and regular attendance is expected.
SUPERVISORY
Responsibilities:
Directly supervises some or all of the following positions:
quality line inspector, quality assurance technician, quality improvement specialist, and lab supervisor.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Helena's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in the chemistry, biology, or chemical engineering , five years laboratory and/or Quality Assurance experience and two years of supervisory experience.
OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Excellent organizational skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft applications excel and word required.
Oracle Process Manufacturing or ERP system experience in Mfg.
preferred.
Working knowledge in the operation and repair of gas chromatograph and HPLC, or strong fundamentals in the theory of all analytical methods.
Problem-solving skills; Good analytical skills.
Understanding of statistics and Statistical Process Control.
Ability to set priorities and work on multiple tasks.
Mechanical aptitude.
May be required to pass an OSHA respirator physical and wear a full face respirator.
Ability to stand for long periods of time in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
Must be available to work rotating shifts as scheduled.
