Transportation Assistant

Transportation Assistant Department of Transportation AIR, Compliance & Airworthiness Division, General Aviation & Rotorcraft Unit, AIR-721B Duties Summary Due to the Pandemic and individual states with different phases of reopening, the selectees report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time as employees are allowed to report to the workplace.
The person selected may telework up to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full time, until it is safe to relocate.
Responsibilities Serves as a Transportation Assistant in Aircraft Certification Service (AIR) performing administrative duties, and routine support tasks to assist professionals and technical staff with the Airworthiness Directive (AD) Program.
The position performs work assignments under the general direction of the manager, project/program manager or more experienced employee assisting in day-to-day operations.
The Transportation Assistant performs a variety of administrative duties.
Assists staff with Airworthiness Directives (AD) program on a national and international basis.
Responsible for monitoring and tracking all AD activity, maintaining automated databases, facilitating overall AD program in preparing summaries and evaluations based on data collected.
Responsible for maintaining public AD rule-making dockets and assisting other FAA personnel and the general public in reviewing or obtaining portions of the content of the docket.
Identifies problems concerning AD processes and procedures, as appropriate.
Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
Assists FAA personnel in AD management process.
Specific duties include the oversight of the business planning and status tools, business plan updates, analysis of data, metrics updates, and related process preventative and corrective actions in support of our quality management system.
In addition, the incumbent supports other administrative duties (record management or correspondence tracking in backup capacity to other administrative personnel).
Works under detailed instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional.
Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional for guidance.
Work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and all aspects of quality.
Travel Required Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis.
The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.

Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level (FV-D or FG/GS-3-6) in the normal line of progression.

Specialized experience includes :
skills in planning and managing the office's daily administrative functions; maintaining automated systems to record, reconcile, validate, and track data; identifying and resolving discrepancies; and performing multiple and varying assignments in the areas of creating/maintaining branch correspondence and records, and other office programs.
